Change-A-Life Awards Life Changing Scholarship

Change-A-Life has awarded a full scholarship to Miss. Ngozi Ogudu, a student of Shining Lord's School, Ebute Metta to enable her complete her education. The award was presented to Miss Ogudu by CAL Founder, Ms. Funmi Iyanda and CAL ED Mrs. Bridget Oyefeso-Odusami at a ceremony which took place on October 12th at the Change A Life office. Change-A-Life is a project set up to intervene in the lives of people when they need it the most. Ngozi Ogudu's plight came to light when her story was published in PM News. She was lauded for her brilliance at school, particularly for cloning a Pentium IV computer and reciting Psalm 119 by heart in a competition. Unfortunately Ngozi would not be able to continue her education as her parents were unable to pay her school fees. Change-A-Life set out to investigate the details of Ngozi's story, visiting her school and conducting interviews with the school principal, Ngozi and her parents. Upon recommendation by CAL's Executive Director, Mrs. Bridget Oyefeso-Odusami, Ngozi was put on the scholarship scheme. Her school fees have been paid and she is now back in school. The Change-A-Life scholarship scheme, is just one of the ways in which the organisation extends a helping hand to indigent people. Change-A-Life also helps render healthcare, micro-finance and business intervention, even helping to better the lifestyle of deserving individuals. The Change-A-Life project began in 2002 with the support of the former governor of Lagos State Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The first edition of the project, which aired on January 1, 2002, saw sixty-eight people awarded grants of N10, 000 each for micro-businesses and educational projects. Since then, Change-A-Life has continued to intervene in the lives of people in extenuating situations of need. Finally, after years of operating as an initiative of the TV show New Dawn with Funmi, Change-A-Life in February 2009, was institutionalised in partnership with the Lagos State Government, to expand its scope and accommodate more deserving youth and families.
The organisation's mission is to ultimately enable beneficiaries to be self-sufficient as well as challenge them to in turn stretch out a hand to support a fellow human being.
