Change-A-Life Intervenes to Save Boys Eyes

The Change-A-Life Foundation on May 8, 2010, formally presented a donation of N100, 000 through the Sebeccly Cancer Care and Support Center to Master Toheeb Abdulfatai, a little boy diagnosed with cancer of the right eye, to enable him continue his medical treatment. The presentation took place at the offices of Change-A-Life located at 3 Okunola Aina Street, Mende.

Toheeb Abdulfatai, a one-year old patient of the Sebeccly Cancer Care and Support Center, was diagnosed with cancer in early 2009, and subsequently had his left eye removed at the Ilorin General Hospital. Upon the degeneration of his condition he was transferred to Lagos where he has since undergone chemotherapy.  However, due to financial constraints, he was unable to begin radiotherapy treatment.  He is the second child of a single indigent mother, whose father in a tragic twist of fate died in a road accident on his way to solicit funds for his sons treatment.

Change-A-Life, who through its health scheme is committed to intervening in the lives of people with special medical needs, was alerted to Toheebs plight by Dr. Omolola Salako, Sebecclys programme coordinator.  Upon reviewing the case, Change-A-Life was able, through the generosity of a donor, to cover the cost of Toheebs radiotherapy treatment.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Change-A-Lifes Founder, Ms. Funmi Iyanda said, We continue to call on all Nigerians to join in this endeavor as we work to transform lives, one person at a time.

Expressing her joy at the donation, Toheebs mother Kafilat said: Thank you for all you have done. I have used all my money for his treatment and his father also died on this issue but I thank God that he can now complete his treatment.

Over the years Change-A-Life has affected the lives many children and people through its scholarship, healthcare, counseling and micro-finance intervention scheme. The scholarship scheme currently supports 98 children.
